Typography is definitely a very important aspect within the design of the company. It is the first thing people read and the type itself represents the company and tells its own story. Looking at tattoo parlours, the type and design are all very similar. Skulls, roses, pin up girls and tribal patterns all play a key theme amongst logos which I think stems from tattoos dating back quite a few years ago. Nowadays with more and more artists, tattoos are more experimental and use different patterns and shapes. Geometric and mandala/mehndi tattoos are very popular now and are taking over the stereotypical ‘pick out of a book tattoo’ that were common a few years ago.
Looking at my Pinterest board, you can see that older tattoos are very similar. With the use of pictures and primary colours, they aren’t very complex and are very common. In my opinion they are not art but simply something you pick out of a magazine and tell your local tattoo artist that you want that. But tattoos can be so much more.
